Visiting Quan Lan beach, guests will comfortably enjoy seafood with surprisingly cheap prices. The fresh squids which have just been caught from the sea is boiled and served with lemon salt; steamed clams dish, grilled dishes, cool and healthy, nutritious sea cucumber soup... are the common delicious foods. People on Quan Lan island are proud of the 2 specialties which only have on this island including sweet potatoes and peanuts planted in the sandy soil.
Coming to Quan Lan Island is also an opportunity to explore an ancient trading port. This also explains why in the vast ocean place, there are great temples and many archaeological sites. Quan Lan temple (communal house) built in 18th century still retains almost intact exquisitely carved patterns. Initially, Quan Lan communal house was built near Cain Lang port, the center of Van Don trading port, later, in the years of 1890 – 1900, the communal house was moved to the site as it is today (Douai village - Quan Lan commune - Van Don district). The communal house leans on 5 mountains forming the Gnu Nyack shape.
People here are always proud of Quan Lan communal house because it is one of the two oldest temples in Quang Ninh province and is currently the only communal house which worships king Ly An Tong who founded the commercial port of Van Don in 1149 in Vietnam. Quan Lan communal house was made of Man Lai wood, the trees which only grow on Ba Bun rock island (near Cain Lang port - Van Don ancient trading port). Over centuries, pillars made of this kind of wood have remained intact without being destroyed by termite. Guests are particularly impressed with pillars of over 5 meters high with a diameter of 70 centimeters. In spite of being built in Le dynasty, the communal house has architecture of Ly dynasty. The carvings are elaborate, beautiful and polish. It can be sure that visitors will be very surprised at the architecture here.
Quan Lan communal house worships Thanh Hoang of the village (the City God), the first people who had merits in building the village, later, it worships Tran Khanh Du, the general who had great success in the battle against Nguyen- Mong enemy and is very attached to this island. Tran Khanh Du’s statue of 157cm high, sitting in the royal seat, with two of his hands folded in his lap is the biggest statue in the communal house. In addition, the communal house also worships Duong Khong Lo and "four Goddesses" as gods who protect people who catch fish in the sea .
Beside the communal house is Quan Lan Pagoda (Linh Quang pagoda) worshipping Buddha and Princess Lieu Hanh. In particular, in the pagoda, the is a statue of Mr. Hau, a local man who contributed a lot of effort to build the pagoda.
Once a bustling trading port, but Quan Lan still carries the beauty of Vietnam sea village. Nowadays, people on the island still live mainly in seafaring, making fish sauce. Tourist services are only developed in the last few years and is changing the face of the island commune with many newly built motels, hotels.
Although tourism industry on Quan Lan is newly developed in recent years, it is the choice of many tourists who love to explore, find the experience of living close to nature. However, in order to develop tourism associated with the protection of nature and cultural values, Quang Ninh province should have detailed plans for this area and develop the community tourism here.
